Nevada Highway Patrol partners with 'Joining Forces' to keep Nevada Day fatality free
With Nevada Day and the holiday season approaching, the Nevada Highway Patrol will take on impaired driving by participating in Joining Forces Impaired Driving enforcement campaigns.
The Nevada Highway Patrol and other Nevada law enforcement agencies are making plans to keep the Nevada Day Weekend and holiday season safe and joyous on our state roads and highways by emphasizing the dangers of driving while impaired.
“Impaired driving not only puts your life and the lives of others in danger; the cost of driving under the influence is expensive. The average estimated cost of a DUI when legal fees, court fines and higher insurance rates are considered is over $10,000. Make sure you have a plan, whether that be designating a sober driver or calling a Taxi, Uber or Lyft. Drive Safe, Nevada”
To help bring greater awareness to the importance of safe and sober driving during the holidays, law enforcement statewide plans to participate in two Joining Forces impaired driving enforcement campaigns in the coming months.
The first campaign includes the Nevada Day weekend. The event begins Friday, October 19, and ends on Sunday, November 4. During this time, NHP will dedicate extra officers to enforcement with the goal of reducing tragedies caused by people driving while impaired. A similar campaign is scheduled from December 18, 2018, through January 1, 2019 to include Christmas and New Year’s.
Funding for the extra patrols is made possible by Joining Forces. Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program funded by the Office of Traffic Safety, aimed at reducing injuries and crashes through statewide enforcement of traffic safety laws. The goal is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving.
Nevada’s goal is Zero Fatalities on our roads. To reach this goal it is critical to always drive sober.
