Carson City homeless program receives $2,500 donation from Southwest Gas Foundation
Night off the Streets, a Carson City volunteer program aimed at providing homeless a safe, warm place to sleep during winter months, received a significant donation of $2,500 this week from the Southwest Gas Foundation.
The Southwest Gas company culture is about giving back to and supporting the community. The Southwest Gas Foundation gives donations to nonprofit partners in the community to help what they are doing for all the residents.
"We are very happy and excited to be one of their first donations. We are excited to support Night off the Streets," said, Manager of Public Affairs for Southwest Gas Corporation, Stacy Woodbury.
As NOTS gets ready to start in November, with this donation, it will be able to start buying supplies, such as sleeping bags and coffee.
"We go through about 250 sleeping bags a year, and with these donations, we can start buying these sleeping bags. Now that we are a nonprofit, we hope we start to get other donations. If not, we can always use volunteers," said NOTS founder and president Deacon Craig Lagier of Carson City.
NOTS will provide a place for those without homes to sleep during the winter nights from November 1 through March 31. A different church in Carson City hosts the warming shelter each month. St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church will be the host in November.
