Carson City arrests: Man allegedly attempted to get into woman's car then followed her to work

A 37-year-old Dayton man was arrested Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor stalking, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

The man allegedly began following the reporting party from her doctor's office on Mica Drive. She stated didn't know the man. She said she parked in a parking stall and the man, driving a Jeep Cherokee with California license plates, parked adjacent to her, the report states.

She said the male exited his vehicle and opened the passenger door side of her car and attempted to get in. She said she spoke to the male by saying "Hello, what are you doing?" She said the man responded with "I thought you called me over." She said she told him "No," the report states.

She then walked into the doctor's office and said the man remained in the parking lot for approximately 5 minutes and then left. Prior to the man leaving she took a photograph of his vehicle parked next to hers. She showed the investigating deputy the photo.

She stated that as she was driving to work and said she noticed the same male in a Jeep following her on the freeway. She said she exited the freeway at College Parkway and the man followed her off the freeway. She said she called her coworker to report the incident and she was instructed by her coworker to park on the east side of the building where she worked. She said when she arrived at work, a couple of coworkers came out of the parking lot to meet her.

She said the male parked his vehicle one row over from her vehicle and said she contacted law enforcement to report the incident. During the time it took for law enforcement to arrive, the man never exited his vehicle and appeared to be staring at her vehicle, the report states.

The investigating deputy requested security footage of the area from the business.

The deputy approached the suspect vehicle and spoke with the man who presented a Nevada driver's license. The officer asked him what he was doing and he stated he was self-employed and waiting for customers to call him. The officer asked him what he did for work and the man responded he is self employed and builds things to sell online. He again stated he was waiting for customers to call him.

The investigating deputy conducted a wants and warrant check on the man, which returned clear. When the officer returned to his vehicle to speak with the man again, he noticed the man's zipper portion of his pants was undone. His genitals were not exposed. The deputy asked him why he was sitting in the parking lot. The man again stated he was waiting for people to call him for his work, the report states.

The deputy asked him why he was at the doctor's office earlier and the man stated he wasn't there. The deputy told him if he wasn't shopping at the business he was parked in, he needed to leave. The man then told the deputy that he worked for the Department of Justice. The officer asked him to show him some of his credentials. The man said he didn't have any. The officer told the man to step out of the vehicle and then placed him into handcuffs, explaining that he was being detained.

The reporting party was asked by the deputy if she wished to pursue charges for stalking. The woman said she did. The man was arrested. Bail: $352.

In other arrests:
— A 33-year-old inmate at Carson City Jail, Clarence Tobin Burnett, was booked Monday for felony battery by prisoner.

According to the booking report, the battery happened inside the inner trustee pod earlier that morning. Video surveillance showed the man slapped the victim in the face one time.

After reading Burnett his Miranda rights, he stated he understood and wished to speak. He said he was having issues with the inmate, who he said talked about a family member of his. He said the issue continued for multiple days. Burnett stated he became angry and admitted to hitting the man in the face with an open hand.

A deputy interviewed the victim inmate who told a similar story about the incident. The man denied medical attention. Burnett was booked for battery by prisoner. Bail: $20,000.

— A 39-year-old Carson City man, Eric Anthony Cook Mathews, was booked for a felony violation of bail conditions warrant. Mathews is already in custody regarding other unrelated criminal matters. No bail in lieu of hearing.

— A 42-year-old Carson City man, Jose Octavio Galvan-Olmos, was arrested Monday for suspicion of being a sex offender failing to register. Bail: $5,000.
