Three jailed after Carson City sheriff’s deputies break up burglary ring

Three were arrested Thursday for felony suspicion of burglary and other charges after deputies discovered a break-in at a car wash coin machine, which led to an investigation that resulted in the discovery of stolen items from several burglaries between Carson City, Sparks and Reno, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

In custody are Ernest Saragosa, 35, of Reno and Austin Willard Rodgers, 26, and Marissa Langfeldt, 22, of Jamestown, Calif. According to the arrest report deputies were called to the car wash in the 400 block of West Nye Lane early Thursday morning for an activated fire alarm at the coin dispenser machine.

A deputy spotted two men and gave commands to stop but they didn’t comply and took off running. Each were located, with Rodgers falling as he was running. He was taken to the hospital to be checked for injuries and was later arrested.

At the scene a deputy located a backpack Rodgers hid behind a fence. Inside were tools, pry bars and $12 in quarters. Similar tools were found on Saragosa. Also located was a half a gram of methamphetamine and a meth pipe. A deputy inspected the two coin machines at the car wash, which were cut open. The owner estimated the cost of replacing the machines at $1,000 each.

Langfeldt’s vehicle was found at a South Carson Street casino and she was taken into custody. She admitted to deputies that it was her car that the three arrived in and that she left when police arrived. She advised she was aware that Rodgers was committing the burglaries but that she “loves him,” the arrest report states.

Detectives interviewed the woman who advised Rodgers and Saragosa also committed burglaries in Reno, Sparks and Carson City. She said the men were part of a recent burglary at a Carson City thrift store in the 400 block of Hot Springs Road and in that crime the men cut wires to the business, entered and stole an iPad from the store. She was shown a surveillance photo of a burglary that happened in the 4900 block of Highway 50 East and she advised one of the suspects was Saragosa.

During the interview she advised Rodgers was getting rid of stolen property by selling it to various pawnshops in Northern Nevada, and further advised she pawned three different times for Rodgers.

Deputies ran a check on the woman and learned that she had recently conducted 22 pawns at eight different stores in Northern Nevada. The records further showed that the woman pawned 12 items at one Carson City pawn shop location, and one item at another, the arrest report states.

The woman gave deputies consent to search the vehicle and officers found multiple pieces of property stolen from Sparks and Reno. During the interview the woman advised that she never took part in the actual burglaries, however she was aware that Rodgers was committing the crimes. She stated that most of the burglaries were done while she was asleep in her car.

Saragosa faces a felony burglary charge, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $31,132. Rodgers faces a felony burglary charge, providing false information to avoid prosecution, obstructing an officer and possession of burglary tools. Bail: $37,912. Langfeldt faces a felony charge of principal to burglary carrying a $25,000 bail amount.
