Carson City area weather: Chance of thunderstorms, much cooler temperatures ahead
A low pressure system off the California coast will provide western Nevada, Carson City and the eastern Sierra with the conditions ripe for thunderstorm development Monday through Wednesday mainly in the afternoon/evening hours with the strongest storms on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The main threats with these storms include lightning, strong outflow winds, brief heavy rainfall, and small hail.
On Thursday, westerly winds will increase as a cold front makes its way through the region. After a few leftover showers on Thursday afternoon due to the front, drier air will work its way through bringing along with it cooler temperatures and breezier conditions.
These cooler temperatures should stick around for the weekend with valleys dipping down into the 40s to low 50s and near freezing for higher elevations.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, expect daytime highs Monday in the upper 80s, the mid-80s Tuesday, the low 80s Wednesday and the upper 70s for Thursday and Friday.
