UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory, in effect from 11 a.m. Friday through 8 pm. Sunday for the greater Reno area, Carson City, Carson Valley in Douglas County, Mineral and Southern Lyon counties as well as the Western Nevada Basin and range including Pyramid Lake, Northern Washoe County.
Forecasters say we can expect consecutive days of high temperatures in most cities near or above 100 with overnight lows in the 60s. Record high Temperatures are likely, with potential for a new record for the latest 100 degrees at Reno.

Hazy skies will continue Thursday around Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley areas, with the much of the smoke due to the Slink Fire south of Topaz Lake, according to the National Weather Service.
A light west flow will allow smoke and haze from the ongoing fires in northern California to spread across more areas of eastern California and western Nevada through at least Thursday.
Areas of concern includes eastern Alpine County, southeast Douglas County and northern Mono County, including the Highway 395 corridor from Gardnerville to Bridgeport, due to the Slink fire. Some periods of reduced air quality and visibility could also reach the Reno and Carson City areas Thursday morning.
Areas of highest concern for poor air quality and visibility include Plumas County, southeast Lassen County and northern Sierra County including the Highway 70 corridor, due to the North Complex fires.
Smoke trends Friday into the Labor Day weekend are less certain and become more dependent on fire activity, according to the weather service. With more west flow, hazy conditions could continue for a while across much of the region, with localized areas of thicker smoke near and downwind of the larger active fires.
Expect summer-like heat through the Labor Day holiday weekend. Record high temperatures for early September could be set, with many lower elevations near or above 100 degrees each day, and Sierra valleys near 90 degrees. This could produce heat health impacts to those outside for extended periods.
The weather service advises It would be a good idea to have some indoor or morning "Plan B" activities in mind. One mitigating factor is that low temperatures will not be overly warm, allowing some cooling relief each night and morning.
