Douglas High School open, sheriff's office investigates threat
Douglas High School opened Monday for the first day of the school year with extra patrols at all Douglas schools following a threat investigation.
The Douglas County School District was informed Sunday evening of a threat made against Douglas High School. The Sheriff's Office opened and investigation into the threat.
According to a news release from the district on social media, Douglas County School District Superintendent Keith Lewis has been in contact Monday morning with
Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley and its school resource officers.
"DCSO is still investigating a third-hand report that an individual was warned to not attend DHS today because there could be a planned school shooting," the release states.
"Based on the information available to DCSO and DCSD this morning, it has been decided that Douglas
High School should be open today for the first day of school," the release states.
Sheriff Coverley has allocated all available resources to patrol all our DCSD schools today, according to the superintendent.
All students who walk, drive, or are dropped off will be required to enter Douglas High School through
the main entry at the front of the school, the release states. If parents do not wish to send their children to Douglas High School today, their absence will be excused, according to the release.
