No collars necessary at flea market fundraiser for dog park
Dogs and fleas normally don't make for good company. But a future park made for dogs and a flea market to raise money for a park designed for K9s to roam is something akin to a friendship of a different animal.
The Dayton Valley Dog Park got a nice boost from between 200 and 300 people who turned out for the fundraising flea market, held at the NV 50 parking lot in Mound House. More than 40 vendors filled 75 slots inside the parking lot for the second annual event. Vendors sold antiques, clothing, jewelry, tools and many other items. The Carson City Animal Shelter was also there, with representatives helping with puppy and kitten adoptions.
The Dayton Valley Dog Park is a nonprofit organization made up of several volunteers who hope to open the park on 2.6 acres of property owned by Lyon County.
The dog park will be located on Old Dayton Valley Road and Como Road, across from the schools and near the senior center.
The flea market did well, with a good amount of people attending, said Andrea Platsis, a Dayton Valley Dog Park volunteer and co-coordinator of Saturday's event. Vendor Ana Zorra agreed, saying the turnout was just as good as last year's event.
Saturday’s flea market was great for the whole family. There was food and lots of fun things to see. Many vendors were happy with the event and said they would return next year. I hope more people will come out next year to help out the local dog shelter and Dayton Valley Dog Park.
Donations for the Dog Park can be made at the U.S. Bank on Highway 50. Checks can be made out to Dayton Valley Dog Park.
