V&T Railroad featured in AAA's VIA magazine cover story
The September/October issue of VIA Magazine put out by AAA has a wonderful cover story on Trains in the West and features, among 11 iron horses, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad.
Carson City Supervisor Shelly Aldean noted the magazine cover story at today's board meeting, saying "we are making progress in getting the word out" about the train. Which led to a funny quip by Mayor Bob Crowell about the railroad staying "on track" alluding to the derailment earlier this month. No one was hurt in the incident, caused by a mudslide on the tracks after a flash flood. The V&T engine was put back on the rail and the train is back to normal operations.
Carson City tourism officials say they're thrilled with the exposure.
"We love all the PR and know that VIA reaches a great market for us," said Candy Duncan, executive director of the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau. The article "has already resulted in some ticket sales so we are delighted."
