Wall of blowing dust prompts Dust Storm Warning northeast of Highway 50
The National Weather Service has issued a Dust Storm Warning until midnight for the western Nevada basin, including Pyramid Lake and the cities of Fallon, Fernley, Imlay, Middlegate, Nixon and Lovelock.
Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas are not in the warning area.
A wall of blowing dust has been reported in Fallon. This dust will move north and east affecting Highway 50 and possibly interstate 80 through midnight, according to the weather service.
Winds will be from the west to southwest, 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Visibility will be reduced to zero at times, and below 1 mile in the dust cloud, according to the weather service.
The weather service advises motorists to be aware of sudden decreases in visibility to near zero. If you encounter a wall of dust, slow down and leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
