Carson City Symphony Youth Chorus to begin fall session August 29
Carson City Symphony Association announces the Symphony Youth Chorus (formerly Joyful Noise Carson Children’s Choir) will begin its Fall Semester on Tuesday, August 29, from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., upstairs at the First United Methodist Church, 412 W. Musser Street in Carson City.
The Chorus, led by Michelle Powers, welcomes children ages 4 to 12. Powers said, “Weekly rehearsals develop students’ musical skills, strong singing voices, and joy in music. I am excited to begin a new season of singing and playing, creating music, and making new friends!" Performances will be at senior centers, retirement homes, and the Symphony Youth Strings concert on Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Carson City Community Center.
Tuition for the semester is free. To help offset the cost of music, supplies, insurance, the instructor’s and accompanist’s stipends, and more, parents may join the Carson City Symphony Association, but it is not a requirement.
The Symphony Youth Chorus, an educational program of the Carson City Symphony Association, was founded in 2017 and has been directed by Michelle Powers since fall of 2019. It is supported in part by public funds through a grant from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts and by private donations.
