Nevada Women's Fund awards FISH $25K grant for Carson City's student family housing project
The Nevada Women’s Fund is pleased to announce that a $25,000 grant has been awarded to Carson City area non-profit Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH. Since its inception in 1982, the NWF has distributed more than $9.4 million in scholarships and grants to empower achievement in women and families in Northern Nevada.
“Nevada Women’s Fund is honored to support F.I.S.H.’s Family Student Housing project and the many women and families who will be able to live at low or no cost while completing their education,” said Ila Achtabowski, President & CEO of NWF. “Our mission of empowering women to achievement through education is furthered through this partnership.”
In 2023, the NWF sought applications from non-profits whose primary objective focused on workforce development, education and career enhancements. FISH offers comprehensive wrap-around services for Northern Nevada families, aiming to enhance the self-sufficiency of community members through transformative experiences. Their mission emphasizes providing food, instruction, shelter and healthcare to community members in need.
FISH's grant request was to subsidize housing costs for women living in the newly constructed Family Student Housing project in Carson City. This project was designed to allow women the opportunity to complete their education without the burden of housing costs, empowering their earning potential, uplifting families out of generational poverty and strengthening communities.
The scholarship and grant awards support NWF’S mission of empowering achievement in women and families to reach their full potential. To learn more about the Nevada Women’s Fund, visit nevadawomensfund.org or call (775) 786-2335.
