Carson City arrests: Jail inmates booked for drug possession
Two Carson City Detention Center inmates were booked early Tuesday for suspicion of felony drug possession after an investigation by jail staff.
Katie Sardella, 24, and Laura Knafelc, 32, were arrested at 3:30 a.m. According to the arrest report, a sheriff's officer assigned as watch commander was monitoring cameras and believed drug usage was taking place between the two in one of the cells.
The officer made entry to the cell and separated the two. Sardella was observed with a floss container in her hand, which contained suspected heroin, the arrest report states.
The women were taken to the pre-booking area of the jail and searched. Sardella was read her Miranda rights and agreed to speak. She disclosed that she arrived at jail with the blue floss container hidden on her person, according to the arrest report.
She entered the facility with what she identified as heroin in the container. She concealed it and took the drugs into her cell and admitted to using the heroin while inside the jail cell, the report states.
The investigation also led to a small clear bag with a white crystal powder that was discovered in Knafelc's pocket. She was Mirandized and admitted the bag found in her pocket was methamphetamine. She admitted she came into the jail with methamphetamine on her person and did not disclose this during the jail search procedure, the report states.
