Fires burning in the northern California region, including a new fire north of Highway 395 near Hallelujah Junction in Lassen County, Calif., has produced smoky skies throughout much of western Nevada, including Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas.
The North Fire, reported before 3 p.m. is located north of Hallelujah Junction and has forced the closure of U.S. 395 in both directions. Southbound motorists were being stopped at Red Rock Road junction with Highway 395 and northbound traffic is closed at Hallelujah Junction.
According to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center, the North Fire is around 1,500 acres as of 7:30 p.m. and is made up of at least two fires, North and South.
Smoke and haze from the region is also most likely being produced from the Stump Fire and possibly the Red Salmon Complex in Northern California, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Go to airnow.gov for the latest air quality measurements.
Density of smoke and air quality impacts will be dependent on fire activity, but the weather service says it anticipates the hazy conditions to linger at least through Monday.
