Carson City Rotarians to meet Camper the K-9
Members of the Rotary Club of Carson City will be among the first to welcome Camper, the newest member of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, to Carson City.
K-9 Unit Supervisor Sgt. Darin Riggin will introduce K-9 Camper and his handler Deputy Derrick Kepler at the club’s meeting Tuesday, August 3, at 12:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom at the Brewery Arts Center. The public is invited to attend.
Camper, an 18-month-old German Shepard, joined the Sheriff’s office this spring after an extensive search for just the right dog. That’s because his role will be different from the other dogs in the unit. He will be part of the School Resource Officers Program in Carson City.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says Camper meets very specific requirements. “He is playground friendly, adept at narcotic detection, and comfortable in any school situation,” he said. “Unlike most police dogs, he won’t be trained for patrol functions since he will be working with children in school environments. He will be a great friend to our area’s young people.”
The Brewery Arts Center is located at 449 W King St, Carson City. Anyone interested in attending the meeting should contact Peter Fishburn at pfishburn@charter.net. For more information on the Rotary Club of Carson City visit www.carsonrotary.org.
