Youth Theatre Carson City cuts with 'Footloose, The Musical' beginning Friday
Youth Theatre Carson City is thrilled to announce our upcoming live production of "Footloose: The Musical, Youth Edition" playing four performances July 30 to August 1, 2021 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.
One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, he is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school.
What he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid.
The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 17 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
Footloose features the talents of over 30 local youth grades 6-12, both on stage and off. Leading the cast are Erich Parker, 15, as Ren McCormack; Camilla Beckwith, 17, as Ariel Moore; and Xander Borg, 18 as Reverend Shaw Moore. Also featured are Anuhea Azevedo as Rusty, Bay Eaton as Willard Hewitt, Jaymes Escobedo as Chuck Cranston, and a host of colorful characters bringing the town of Bomont to life.
This will be Youth Theatre Carson City’s second live production at the Carson City Community Center since the pandemic.
“Our kids have been dying to get back onstage and back into the rehearsal room with their friends,” commented Andie Wilkerson, Artistic Director of Youth Theatre Carson City and Director of Footloose. “It has been a joy to watch these talented young people come back to life on the stage, making connections and cheering each other on. That’s the real magic of theatre - the ability to come together with a common love and a common goal and create something unique and special for an audience. I cannot wait to share this experience with our audiences."
Performances of Footloose: The Musical, Youth Edition. will run July 30 and 31 at 7pm and July 31 and August 1 at 2pm in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center located at 851 E.
