Carson City weather: Last round of thunderstorms will be mostly to the north
While Carson City has been spared thus far of severe thunderstorms, other parts of the region have not, experiencing rain, hail and gusty winds extending into Lyon, Churchill and Washoe counties and eastern Nevada Monday and Tuesday.
Wednesday's storm forecast appears to be the same, with an elevated potential for severe thunderstorms to the north of Carson City as low pressure moves over northeast California and northwest Nevada, according to the National weather service. That's good news for today's kickoff of the Carson City Fair at Fuji Park.
Wednesday's storms should be the last round of severe weather for a few days, with sunny skies and hot temperatures returning through the weekend.
Late Wednesday morning, thunderstorms were developing from Tahoe northward into northwest Nevada and northeast California, according to the weather service.
Many areas, including Carson City, could see isolated coverage of thunderstorms; however, the most widespread storms are expected north of Interstate 80.
Most thunderstorms are expected after 1 p.m., with activity diminishing and moving east of a Cedarville to Lovelock line by 8 or 9 p.m.. The strongest storms Wednesday could bring wind gusts to 50 mph or more, frequent lightning, hail to one inch in diameter (quarter-size), and intense rainfall, according to the weather service.
