Carson City local to perform Tuesday night on NBC's 'World of Dance'
Local 16-year-old Ryan Maw from Carson City will be competing on NBC's "World of Dance" tonight Tuesday evening, at 10 pm. He will be on this last qualifiers episode with his tap dancing group called "Second to None."
Ryan has formerly competed on "So You Think You Can Dance, the Next Generation," and was featured on a local news station. Ryan trained at various dance studios in the Reno/Tahoe/Carson City area before leaving at age 13 to live with a host family in San Diego to further his training.
He currently trains at Danceology Performing Arts Center in San Diego, under the direction of Niki Lucia. He trains in all styles of dance but his favorites styles are tap and hip hop. His move to California has paid off in the many opportunities that have come his way, including earning spots on prestigious companies like I am Force, IMMAbeast, and RHYTHMATICS, a professional tap company that has created a traveling show with upcoming performances in Los Angeles and New York City.
Ryan is also the two-time winner at the internationally-acclaimed Dance Awards, where dancers must be proficient in all genres of dance in order to travel and assist faculties of JUMP, NUVO, and 24/7 Dance Conventions. Ryan was the first to win as a tap dancer.
He assists choreographers such as Emmy-award winning Travis Wall and Mandy Moore, as well as Guinness World Record holder, Anthony Morigerato, for the most tap sounds in one minute! His skills have also awarded him sponsorship and an ambassadorship as a "Capezio Athlete", as well as two performances on the Ellen Show, one for Ellen's birthday surprise with tWitch, and the other to promote DancerPalooza, the country's largest summer dance intensive program.
Tune in to follow his journey on NBC's World of Dance tonight, Tuesday July 24 at 10 p.m.
