— A 32-year-old man, Dakota James Smith, was arrested early Thursday morning in a parking lot of a North Edmonds Street casino for suspicion of two counts possession of methamphetamine and 2 counts possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle after it stopped approximately five feet past a limit line and then made an illegal u-turn in the middle of the intersection of North Edmonds and Gordon streets.
During the investigation deputies observed a cigarette pack in the center console of the vehicle with a small zip-lock bag inside that was cloudy in color, consistent with drug transporting. The officer detained Smith, read him his Miranda rights and asked him what was in the bag. He stated nothing but said earlier there were drugs inside. He was asked what type of drugs and the man stated heroin was inside the bag earlier, the report states.
Officers learned Smith had a confirmed warrant and he was arrested. Prior to a tow of the vehicle, officers located two pieces of folded tin foil. One contained burnt methamphetamine and the other with a crystal of suspected methamphetamine, the report states.
A second 32-year-old Carson City man and passenger in the vehicle, who was also subsequently arrested, stated he would not give his name to deputies nor would he get out of the vehicle. He told deputies they would have to use force to get him out of the vehicle. The man then locked the passenger door.
A deputy unlocked the passenger door from the main controls on the driver side and the man was assisted out of the vehicle, while resisting arrest. He was handcuffed and taken to jail. After an investigation, he was arrested for suspicion of the following misdemeanor offenses: resisting arrest, obstructing, a contempt of court warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Total bail amount listed for Smith: $7,274. Bail amount for the other man, $3,000 cash.
— A 29-year-old Carson City woman was arrested late Wednesday in the 2900 block of Menlo street for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, hit and run of an unoccupied vehicle and open container.
According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the area for a hit and run driver. Officers met with a reporting party who stated he heard a collision from outside the window of his apartment, and went outside and saw a white sedan drive away.
The man stated he followed the vehicle and called the sheriff's office. He said the vehicle circled the block and then returned to the scene. He stated he observed the driver get out of her vehicle and inspect the right front fender of the vehicle that was damaged. The man stated the woman attempted to get back into her vehicle and drive away but that her vehicle wouldn't start, the report states.
A deputy made contact with the woman and asked if she had been in an accident with another vehicle. The woman stated no. The officer could smell alcohol on her person as she spoke. The officer asked if the she had anything to drink that night and she said yes, the report states.
The woman agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test of.393 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. She was taken to the hospital for medical clearance due to the high amount of alcohol content from the breath test. At the hospital she voluntarily provided an evidentiary blood sample. Bail: $1,966.
