Blue Pebbles Helps Seniors Beat the Heat in Carson City
Andy and Cassi Selders, owners of Blue Pebbles, a family-owned business in South Lake Tahoe, California, donated 70 box fans to the Carson City Senior Center on Thursday.
The donation came about after Helen Selders, mother of Andy and a long-time volunteer of the Senior Center, mentioned to Andy and Cassi that the Senior Center was out of fans. That’s when Andy and Cassi, along with children Haven and Avi and employees Anthony and Karina, decided to do something about it and surprise the Senior Center with 70 brand-new fans.
Even mom, Helen, was surprised by the amount. “I thought they would deliver 5 or 10 fans, and they show up with 70,” Helen shared during the delivery and was beaming with pride over her family’s generous donation. The excitement carried throughout the Senior Center as fans were unloaded and ready to be given out.
Courtney Warner, Director of the Senior Center, heard the commotion and came to help. “This was an incredible surprise and an immediate rescue to our situation. It is so hard in this heat to put a senior’s name on a waitlist for a fan. Now we can hand one out right away, providing some relief in the hot summer days,” Warner said.
The Fan Drive is part of KOLOCares and distributes new fans to seniors aged 60 and over at the Carson City Senior Center. The program is dependent on generous donations from businesses, organizations, groups, and individuals who supply brand-new fans to seniors in need. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Carson City Senior Center at 911 Beverly Drive. Fans are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Call the Senior Center for more information at (775) 883-0703.
