Murder suspect arrested in June by Carson City SWAT team to be extradited to California
A murder suspect who was taken into custody last month by the Carson City Sheriff's Office SWAT Team at an Airport Road apartment was served Tuesday with an executive murder warrant issued by Nevada's governor at Carson City Jail where he has been in custody.
Joesph Vincent Ward, 31, has been officially charged with the crime of murder in state of California after fleeing from authorities there. An executive warrant issued by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval will assure Ward is extradited to Nevada County, California.
The no bail executive warrant was issued Monday.
Ward, who had been identified as being from Douglas County, is accused of killing Kenneth Pestana, 61, outside Nevada City, Calif., on June 7.
According to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, On June 7, 2017 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a 911 call came into the Nevada County Regional Dispatch Center advising of a deceased man. Deputies arrived on scene and confirmed the death of Pestana. A preliminary investigation indicated that foul play was suspected in Pestana’s death.
Ward was arrested June 8 by Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT and California law enforcement agencies at the Bella Lago Apartments in the 1600 block of Airport Road.
