Lyon County Manager: Walker River Basin flood levels peak, now begin to fall
YERINGTON — Lyon County may have seen the highest water flow in the Walker River Basin with levels now beginning to drop some, County Manager Jeff Page said Wednesday. Many in the communities of Yerington, Mason Valley and Smith Valley have begun to take flood protection measures down.
High river flows may happen for the remainder of the summer from time to time but the Walker River Basin shouldn’t see peak flows like earlier this spring and summer, said Page.
All roads except Miller Lane are open at this time. Page explained that Miller Lane still has water flowing over it at spots. Once the water has receded, county crews need two to three weeks for the road to dry out before they can assess the damage and make necessary repairs.
Miller Lane has been the main route to move traffic for the annual A Night in the Country Concert being held July 27-30, 2017. The public can expect significant delays on Highway 95A south into Yerington, Goldfield Avenue at Main Street and Highway 95A going east from Yerington during that time.
Page noted Lyon County appreciates the efforts of its staff, the City of Yerington, the Walker River Irrigation District, Peri and Sons, Circle Bar N Ranch, Scierine Ranch, Snyder Ranch and the entire community for their efforts to protect the community from flooding.
