Carson City Sheriff’s Office Uniformed Reserve Program welcomes Commander Robert Rikalo
The Carson City Uniformed Reserve Program is pleased to announce the appointment of Commander Robert Rikalo as the program's new leader. Commander Rikalo brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position, and his leadership will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success of the program.
Commander Rikalo’s law enforcement career spans several prestigious positions, including serving the State of Nevada as a Corrections Officer with the Nevada Department of Corrections and the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Commander Rikalo served as a State Trooper in Las Vegas Urban Traffic and Commercial Divisions. He also excelled as a Field Training Officer and Technical Accident Investigator. Commander Rikalo served as an Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor and Coordinator for the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Southern Command and Northern Command, where he honed his skills in emergency response operations and training.
Throughout his distinguished career, Commander Rikalo has held the rank of Sergeant in various locations, including Las Vegas, Carson City, and Lake Tahoe / Incline Village. His extensive experience and leadership capabilities are welcomed by Sheriff Ken Furlong.
As the new commander, Commander Rikalo will oversee the operations of the Uniformed Reserve Deputy program in Carson City. He will work closely with the dedicated team of reserve deputies, ensuring they receive the necessary training and resources to effectively serve the Carson City community.
One may wonder, what does a Uniformed Reserve Deputy do? These highly trained individuals work alongside full-time law enforcement officers, providing an extra layer of security and support to ensure the safety of our community.
Reserve deputies assist with various tasks, including assistance within the Carson City Jail, patrolling neighborhoods, patrolling Lake Tahoe within the County of Carson, inmate transports, Hospital inmate security, responding to emergency calls and events, participating in community outreach programs, and assisting with augmenting staffing within the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. Reserve deputies are required to meet and maintain Nevada POST standards, conduct ongoing training, and attend monthly meetings.
All of the time reserve deputies put in is volunteer time. Yes, that is correct! These individuals do not get paid They volunteer their time and work around their regular full-time work schedule.
With the appointment of Commander Rikalo, the Uniformed Reserve Program is poised to expand its reach and impact in Carson City.
