Carson City Fire Department called to gas leak on Carriage Crest

Carson City Fire Department responded Wednesday morning to Carriage Crest after a natural gas line was cut during construction digging.

At around 8:40 a.m. the fire department responded. Some nearby homes were briefly evacuated as firefighters prepared to clamp the main pipe exposing the leak. It was clamped at around 9:05 a.m. NV Energy has been contacted.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is advising motorists to seek alternate routes as lane closures continue for resurfacing of approximately two miles of U.S. 50 between Asphalt Drive and Nichols Lane in eastern Carson City.

Overnight lane closures took place Tuesday night and will continue again tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 1 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly as the new roadway surface is sealed.

A 40-year-old woman was arrested Friday for suspicion of furnishing a controlled substance to a state prisoner, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team booking report.

Douglas County is asking the following communities to be on the alert and start preparing for potential evacuations. Evacuations have not been ordered at this time, in Douglas County, however there is potential for evacuation orders in the near future. The communities possibly affected are:

The Caldor Fire burning in El Dorado County is now 186,568 acres in size and 15 percent contained. Firefighters had a battle on some sides of the fire while having successes on others.

Monday's expected southwestern wind pattern and dry fuels caused an increase in fire behavior located in the northeastern and eastern areas of the fire.

A Red Flag fire weather warning for the Lake Tahoe Basin, including the Caldor Fire area, the Northern Sierra Front including the Dixie Fire area and western Nevada was extended to late Wednesday due to continued unstable conditions, gusty winds and low humidity, according to the National Weather Service.

The Carson City Community Center and the Fuji Park Fairgrounds are full. Evacuees from the #CaldorFire should proceed to Reno-Sparks Convention Center. Doors open at 9 p.m.

The main evacuation shelter at the Carson City Community Center is now open as of late Monday afternoon, as is the secondary evacuation site for those with large and small animals at Fuji Park, according to Carson City's Emergency Manager.

To better provide public and firefighter safety due to the ongoing California wildfire crisis, USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is announcing a temporary closure of all National Forests in California.

MINDEN — Lyon County is working with the Nevada Division of Emergency Management to assist with the Evacuation efforts of South Lake Tahoe residents due to the Caldor Fire. Lyon County is not, at this time, opening a shelter. Lyon County is preparing to offer assistance as follows:

CARSON CITY — Today, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak declared a state of emergency in response to the ongoing Caldor Fire and the anticipation of the fire crossing from California into the State of Nevada in the coming days.

Declaring a state of emergency ensures resources from the local, state, and federal levels are available to assist as needed during this emergency.

UPDATE: The Carson City Community Center shelter evacuation site is at capacity. Evacuees from the Caldor Fire can go to the following places:

— Reno Sparks Convention Center, 4590 S Virginia St, Reno, NV (capacity 454)
— Fuji Park (capacity 62) – 601 Clear Creek Rd. Carson City, NV 89701
— Lifepoint Church, 1095 Stephanie Way, Douglas County
— Dayton Rodeo Event Center (capacity 150 RVs for dry camping and a limited number of large animals) – 500 Schaad Ln, Dayton, NV 89403
— Lyon County Fair Grounds (capacity 200 RVs for dry camping and large animals) – 100 US Highway 95A East, Yerington, NV 89447

With the Douglas County evacuation center in Gardnerville now full, plans are underway to have evacuees of the Caldor Fire in South Lake Tahoe go to two locations in Carson City that will be open later today — the Community Center on East William Street and Fuji Park.

Motorists are advised via Nevada Department of Transportation signage that the Caldor Fire evacuation site in Gardnerville is now full. The illuminated sign is located between Topsy Lane and Jacks Valley Road on Highway 395. Carson City emergency manager Jason Danen also confirmed the evacuation center in Gardnerville was full.

UPDATE 11:28AM: A Final Evacuation Order for South Lake Tahoe has been issued. The order extends through the remainder of the city to the Nevada state line.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development is partnering with OnTrackNorthAmerica to create the Southwest Supply Chain Coalition that will better connect markets and lower costs, while at the same time addressing urgent climate change, safety, and congestion issues.

Gusty winds, low humidity and increasing high temperatures has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag warning for Monday into Tuesday for the fire areas in the Sierra and Lake Tahoe Basin, the Dixie Fire area to the north and throughout western Nevada including Carson City and Carson Valley.

An evacuation warning is defined as a potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate and those with pets and livestock should leave now.

One of the two thermal cameras in place for the Caldor Fire shows active flames heading into the Lake Tahoe Basin Sunday evening with a dozen or more spot fires already established.

CARSON VALLEY, Nev. — With the Douglas County Rodeo & Concert taking place Sept. 18 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Visit Carson Valley is asking for photos depicting the valley’s western heritage. Prizes are awarded for the top three photos. Deadline to submit photos is Friday, Sept. 10.

Carson City's unemployment rate for July remained unchanged at 5.3 percent compared to June, with Reno unemployment at 4.9 percent and the Las Vegas area at 9.4 percent, according to figures released Thursday from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

The Douglas County Community & Senior Center remains an active Evacuation Center for the evacuees in El Dorado County affected by the Caldor Fire. Due to this, the facility is closed to the public until further notice.

BOISE, Idaho — The National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho, requested a Department of Defense activation of approximately 200 active-duty U.S. Army Soldiers to assist with wildfire suppression efforts.

The Caldor Fire in El Dorado County southwest of Lake Tahoe has now burned 156,515 acres and remains 19 contained as of Sunday morning.

The Carson City SDA Church Pantry is open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 405 E. College Parkway. The pantry is across the parking lot from the church in the beige building next to the playground. If you are in need of food, please come by. Masks are required while in the building.

Through the smoke and the ash of California, Montana, and Nevada fires, with an air quality of 363, they wore their pj’s, were wrapped in blankets, and carried cups of Dutch Bros. and Starbucks as they gathered together for Carson High School’s Senior Sunrise.
