Carson City arrests: Woman jailed for 2 counts suspected child abuse, endangerment

A 39-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Monday for suspicion of two counts felony child abuse among other offenses, according to a sheriff's office booking report.

Jennifer Nicole Henderson was taken into Carson City Sheriff's Office custody at 5:12 p.m. following an investigation involving alleged crimes at a Corbett Street residence. She was also booked for two counts gross misdemeanor suspicion of child endangerment and misdemeanor domestic battery.

According to the booking report, deputies responded to a report of a domestic battery and spoke with the reporting party who identified himself. He stated his girlfriend, Jennifer Henderson, battered him. The man had a bruise forming under his left eye and scratch marks on his arm and a bite mark on his left hand.

He stated the woman came home with her children and was extremely irate, that he tried to separate her from the children and that she punched him several times in the face. Deputies saw the suspect in the front yard and she attempted to go back inside the residence, having stumbled and then fell down.

Deputies observed the woman had red, watery eyes and slurred speech. She also had a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person. She had a small cut on her right middle finger and was slightly bleeding. She continuously stated she never hit the man, admitting they had an argument, the report states.

Deputies spoke with the woman's 10-year-old son as part of the investigation and learned of the alleged verbal and physical abuse both he and his 5-year-old brother suffered. It was learned the children and their mother had been at a pool in Gardnerville where she had been drinking, and when returning home, began screaming at them, thrashing and throwing items while driving. She allegedly slammed on the vehicle brakes several times, causing the children to nearly fall out of their seats, the report states.

Once the children returned home, they went to the their room where the mother allegedly came after them, punching one of the sons in the head with a closed fist. Deputies noted the boy had a bruise on the left side of his forehead. The other boy was also punched in the back of the head with a closed fist during the altercation. He told a deputy he was attempting to protect his brother the best he could. The brother was allegedly punched in the stomach, which cause him to fall on his back, according to the booking report.

At that time, the woman's boyfriend attempted to get her away from the children, intervening, where she allegedly bit him and punched him in the face multiple times, the report states.

The woman was arrested for suspicion of two counts child abuse, two counts child endangerment, and domestic battery. Bail: $40,000.

In other arrests:
— A 28-year-old Vacaville, Calif., man, Zachary David Law, was arrested July 12 for suspicion of fourth degree arson, a felony offense.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded at 4:51 a.m. to a South Carson Street casino for a report of arson. When deputies arrived, staff directed them to the suspect who was sitting on a curb near the south entrance.

The staff member said he and a fellow employee observed Law light a book of matches and place them near the corner of the building. The employees then saw flames coming from the gutter spout. An employee said he pushed Law against the wall and removed a burning book of matches with his foot, stomping out the matches. The employee said they wanted to press charges against the man and completed a citizen's arrest form. Another employee witness completed a written statement.

The arrest report notes there were no security cameras visible from the area of the rain gutter. A deputy observed the book of matches in front of the spout and some footprints in the gravel in front of and next to the spout. Law was detained. Deputies took photos of the burned book of matches and the gutter spout, which had some dead leaves inside but no ash or burn marks.

The deputy read Law his Miranda rights. The man stated he understood his rights and wished to speak. Law said he had lit the matches and placed them in the gutter as a "sacrifice." He stated that he had removed the matches from the gutter then stomped out the flames with his foot. Bail: $5,000.

— A 28-year-old man, Lee Vaivai, was arrested at 7:49 a.m. July 12 for suspicion of a priority five felony parole and probation violation and a misdemeanor warrant. No bail hold in lieu of a hearing.
