Carson City area weather: Gusty afternoon winds, low humidity prompt Red Flag warning
Critical fire weather conditions are expected Sunday afternoon across Carson City and much of the Sierra Front region with the worst conditions likely for locations north of Highway 50 in western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued Sunday for the northern Sierra Front including Carson City, Carson Valley, Storey, northern and southern Washoe and western Lyon counties from 1 to 9 p.m.
Peak southwest winds of 20-35 mph (localized higher gusts for wind prone areas) with humidity below 15 percent is forecast during this time.
The weather service advises to avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions and check livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
