Carson City arrests: Vehicle bump in fast food drive-thru lands man in jail
A 23-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning in the 300 block of East William Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, a Carson City sheriff's report said.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a fast food restaurant in the 300 block of East William Street at 12:13 a.m. Deputies observed two vehicles in the drive through. A deputy made contact with the driver of a red Yukon and was advised that the driver of a Chevy SUV had hit the back of his vehicle. The driver stated the male driver of the SUV came up to the window and apologized. The reporting party (RP) told the officer the driver sounded like he was drunk, the arrest report states.
The deputy looked at the red Yukon and did not see any damage to the vehicle.
The deputy made contact with the driver of the Chevy SUV and could smell an "intense" odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. A female passenger admitted to being grossly intoxicated. The man stated he had one beer. He was asked if he hit the Yukon in front of him. He said his foot slipped off the brake and his vehicle rolled forward and tapped the rear end of the Yukon.
The officer told the man he needed to make sure he was sober enough to drive. The officer observed thick, slurred speech and red watery eyes. The man consented to field sobriety tests. He was asked if he had any weapons. The man said he usually carries a knife and was unsure if it was on him.
The officer said he was going to pat him down for weapons and asked if he could search his pockets. The man agreed. The deputy located a prescription bottle that did not have a script on it and a single pill, identified as Celecoxib, which requires a prescription.
Deputies conducted field sobriety tests and the man showed signs of impairment, the arrest report states. He provided a preliminary breath test of .184 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI and for possession of a prescription drug without having a prescription. At jail he provided evidentiary breath tests of .128 and .144. Bail: $3,637.
