Carson Car Center acquires local Hyundai franchise
Carson Car Center (CCC) has purchased Carson City Hyundai from the Dick Campagni Automotive Group, said CCC General Manager Wayne Lew.
The deal was finalized June 1, transferring the franchise and its inventory of 17 factory new vehicles over to the certified pre-owned automobile dealership at the corner of Koontz Lane and South Carson Street.
Lew said CCC sought to acquire a new car franchise to complement its growing inventory of certified pre-owned vehicles, and approached Campagni about buying the Hyundai franchise from him.
He said the Hyundai brand is like the right fit for Carson Car Center.
"We're excited to have it," he said. "We wanted a new car franchise in town that we could do well with, and we know that we can do very well with a great product."
One of the attractors that makes Hyundai a solid product and a good local investment is its vehicle warranties, Lew said, because the manufacturer goes out of its way to stand by its products.
"Hyundai has the best warranties in the world," he said. "New cars come with a 10-year 100,000-mile powertrain, which is a huge difference from what most other manufacturers offer."
Hyundai also provides a standard five-year 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, which is almost twice the industry standard three-year, 36,000-mile warranty offered by most other brands.
"That says something about the product, if the manufacturer is willing to stand behind it five more years," Lew said.
Lew said Carson Car Center plans to carry four to five times the inventory of factory new Hyundai vehicles than Campagni had.
"We're going to take this franchise to new heights," he said.
New Hyundai automobiles on the CCC lot include sub-compacts and compacts, full-sized cars as well as sport utility vehicles and a new luxury line called Genesis, Lew said, which is on equal footing with other established luxury brands, but requires a lot less green.
"It's equal to Lexus or Mercedes, but a lot less money," he said. "About $20-30,000 less."
Acquisition of Hyundai has also meant increasing sales and service staff to manage the needs of customers. Service personnel have also had to be factory trained to work on the new car brand.
Inventory of factory new Hyundais and certified pre-owned vehicles of various makes and models will be about 50/50 on the lot, Lew said.
"Our lot is fuller than it ever has been before," he said.
That said, Lew emphasized the Carson Car Center will continue to market itself as the area's premier certified preowned vehicle store.
"We've still got all of the certified used cars in our inventory," he said. "We're still going to carry every make and model, and still service every make and model of pre-owned vehicles."
