Carson City man arrested for giving a false name to avoid warrants he did not have
A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of 10th and Curry Thursday afternoon for driving without a valid license, driving without proof of insurance, a stop sign violation, and providing a false statement to an officer.
Deputies noticed the vehicle while on patrol in the area after it did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign on Curry.
When deputies conducted a traffic stop, the man identified himself by the name Samuel but said he did not know his social security number and did not have an ID. He also did not provide insurance for the vehicle.
Deputies asked him to step out of the vehicle. When he did so, deputies noticed a Nevada ID card in between the door and the driver’s seat with a different name.
He was detained after deputies learned he was lying. When asked why he had lied, he told deputies he thought he may have warrants. He did not.
Deputies learned through dispatch that the man had been cited for driving without a valid license at least three times.
He was taken into custody without issue.

— A 39-year-old Dayton man was arrested in the area of Highway 50 and Airport Road early Friday morning on suspicion of DUI first, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to maintain a lane.
According to the police report, deputies were on patrol when they spotted a vehicle driving in the slow lane next to the curb drifting into the bicycle lane.
The vehicle continued traveling east on William, going under 30 mph in a 45 mph zone. When the lanes changed from two to three, the vehicle swerved into the farthest right lane before returning to the middle lane.
Deputies stopped the vehicle in the area of Airport Road and Highway 50 and made contact with the driver. As the driver rolled down the window, deputies noticed two pipes on the passenger seat.
The man had red watery eyes, slurred speech, and was responding very slow to questions. Deputies asked for his identification, and he said he did not have any with him.
When asked if he had had anything to drink, he said yes, he’d been drinking at a local casino.
He agreed to participate in field sobriety tests. Deputies asked him to step out of the vehicle; when he did, deputies patted him down for weapons and asked him to remove what was in his right pocket. The man removed a clear glass pipe with burned residue which appeared to be a methamphetamine pipe.
He told deputies he had smoked a couple bowls of marijuana earlier in the night.
He showed multiple signs of impairment during the field sobriety tests. He provided a preliminary breath test which resulted in a BAC of .033 percent. Due to the failure to the field sobriety tests, deputies determined the man was under the influence of a controlled substance.
He was taken into custody without issue.
Bail: $2,406
