Carson City arrests: Man accused of possession, intent to sell meth

A 52-year-old Dayton man was arrested Monday in the 1600 block of Fifth Street for suspicion of third offense felony possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Michael Troy Kever also faces misdemeanor charges of violation of pre-trial supervision and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched at 7:50 p.m. to a gas station at Fifth and Saliman for a report of a petit larceny. Dispatch advised the subject stole food from the store and left on foot after initially arriving in a vehicle.

Dispatch advised the man left a white truck he arrived in, parked in the parking lot with two small dogs in the cab of the truck. Store employees called animal control to have them removed from the hot vehicle, the arrest report states.

The deputy located the man in the store and recognized him by way of having several previous contacts. The suspect was slumped over a slot machine and appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine.

The deputy noticed a large amount of cash sitting on the slot machine where Kever was gambling. The deputy conducted a routine wants and warrants check on the man and learned he was on Alternative Sentencing for possession of methamphetamine and had a search and seizure clause for drugs and alcohol, the arrest report states.

The deputy asked the man how he arrived at the store. The suspect said he didn’t know. The deputy asked if the truck, a U-Haul, in the parking lot belonged to him. The man said he didn’t have a truck. He then stood up from where he was and looked out the window in the lot and said “that’s odd the scooters in the back of the truck are mine, how did they get there?” according to the arrest report.

The man began to talk in a rambling way. The deputy detained him and told him he was not under arrest, that he was being detained until Alternative Sentencing officers could speak with him. He was placed in the back of the deputy’s patrol vehicle.

The deputy opened the driver’s door of the U-Haul truck and in plain view on the driver side floor board was approximately 7 grams of methamphetamine, several hypodermic devices and a common spoon with residue on it. A field test of the spoon and the meth revealed positive, the report states.

Kever was advised he was under arrest for possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, violation of pretrial supervision and possession of drug paraphernalia. Upon hearing the charges, he began kicking the rear of the patrol vehicle with both of his feet. He was then transferred to a patrol SUV that were without windows to kick out, and then taken to jail where he was booked on the charges. Bail: $44,137.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area for a possible domestic battery. Deputies arrived and, from the sidewalk, could hear a female crying and a man yelling. As deputies got closer to the door, they could hear the female crying loudly saying she was scared and she was sorry. The male was still yelling at her when the officers knocked on the door of the apartment in an attempt to make contact. Deputies knocked several times before the suspect answered.

The man did not want to let the deputies in at first, the arrest report states. Officers observed the woman on the couch crying while holding a baby. The woman, was shaking uncontrollably as she attempted to feed her baby, the arrest report states.

It was learned the man became aggressive and threw her things on the ground when she attempted to leave with her children. The suspect allegedly also picked up the victim’s cell phone and threw it against the door of the bedroom, where it stuck to the door, leaving an imprint of the cell phone, according to the deputy’s investigation. The woman also had a visible red mark on her arm.

Deputies interviewed the man who was uncooperative. He was given the opportunity to provide information on the altercation but declined. His Miranda warning was read and the man refused to speak. He was arrested for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and preventing a victim from reporting a crime. Bail: $8,000.

— A 41-year-old Reno man was booked Monday into Carson City Jail at 1 p.m. for a failure to appear warrant issued Jan. 31, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $295.
