Carson City arrests: Woman jailed for child endangerment, marijuana found mixed with toys
A 30-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of gross misdemeanor child neglect and endangerment after Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies found marijuana and paraphernalia among children's toys.
According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a Lompa Lane apartment for a report of domestic battery.
Deputies investigated the claims of domestic battery between a father and his adult daughter and determined there was no physical evidence to support the claim, the report states.
Deputies learned the daughter was living with her family in the living room portion of the apartment residence, along with the woman's 6-year-old daughter.
During the investigation, officers observed, in plain view on a coffee table, a marijuana pipe, and multiple pieces of unburned marijuana scattered around the pipe, and empty dispensary bags, one on the coffee table and one underneath the coffee table. On top of the coffee table were children's toys and paintings mixed in with the marijuana and paraphernalia, the arrest report states.
The apartment was in disarray with trash, an ash tray with burned marijuana, dirty clothing and children's toys laying around the kitchen and living room. Both the coffee table and dining table were covered in trash, and the carpet soiled black, the report states.
The woman and her daughter slept on an air mattress located in the same room as the coffee table where the marijuana and pipe were located, the report states. Next to the air mattress were dirty and stained pillows and blankets.
The suspect was read her Miranda rights and agreed to speak. She admitted to being the owner of the marijuana pipe and ash tray containing the burned marijuana. She denied smoking in front of her daughter, and said she always cleans the apartment and makes her daughter go to a different room when she smokes, the report states.
A Department of Child and Family Services investigator arrived on scene to assess the safety of the apartment. The suspect's father stated he was concerned about the safety and the child.
