$2.8 million in federal grants for Nevada charter schools now available
About $2.8 million in federal competitive grants is now available to increase the quality of public charter school education in Nevada.
“The grant funding will support newer public charter schools by providing financial assistance for the planning, program design, and initial implementation of new charter schools and to disseminate best practices from effective charter schools to the rest of the public education system,” said Steve Canavero, Ph.D., Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction. “The purpose of these grants is to stimulate growth of high-quality public charter schools in Nevada.”
The Nevada Department of Education (NDE) was selected as a recipient of the federal Charter School Program for State Education Agencies Grant. The goals of NDE for this grant are to increase the number of high-quality public charter schools in Nevada, especially those serving students who are at the greatest risk of not meeting academic content standards; improve student achievement in Nevada’s public charter schools, particularly for students who have been historically underserved; promote the dissemination of high-quality public charter school best practices; and to strengthen the overall quality of charter authorizing.
