State purchases Harley Davidson Financial Building in Carson City for $18.5 million
The Harley Davidson Financial Building, located at 3850 Arrowhead Way in Carson City, is in the process of being acquired by a new buyer — the state of Nevada.
This is not the first time the financial building has been sold; in January 2021, an investment company out of Las Vegas initially purchased the property for $3.8 million.
The state upped the bid by purchasing the building for a whopping $18.5 million, a 386 percent increase over its previous purchase. Other state-owned offices are nearby, such as the Health and Human Services, and Division of Public and Behavioral Health offices.
Currently, the state leases many of its department offices — something Gov. Joe Lombardo wants to see eradicated.
Lombardo believes that purchasing buildings, rather than leasing them, will save the state money in the long run, according to a report by the Reno Gazette Journal.
Lombardo announced earlier this year that he wanted state employees back in the office full time, a declaration that was met with push back from many employees who have worked remotely or on a hybrid schedule since the beginning of the pandemic.
It is not known at this time which department or departments will be moving into the space.
The sale is expected to close by next month.
