Evans Broadcasting acquires Reno radio stations
Evans Broadcasting Company, Inc., a Carson City-based radio broadcasting business, recently purchased two Reno FM radio stations, said company spokesman Stephen Thomas.
KURK, The Bandit, heard at frequency 100.9 FM, and KWFP, The Wolf, heard at frequency 92.1 FM, were sold May 1 by Wilkes Broadcasting to Jerry Evans, owner of Evans Broadcasting, Thomas said.
KURK 100.9 will be renamed K-Rock, he said.
"Jerry has been in the radio biz since the 70s, and has a certain style," Thomas said. "From what I hear 'The Bandit' name did not fit his vision. Jerry is toying with K-Rock to make it a little less hard."
KWFP The Wolf, meanwhile, has been rebranded to feature the genre of New Country, he said.
"As far as the New Country on The Wolf, that is a format of New Country songs instead of Classic, or a classic new mix like our 'Real Country' KCMY station," Thomas said. "New Country brings in a very young demographic (12 and up)."
Thomas said The Wolf's signal at 92.1 isn't very strong coming into Carson City, so Evans is considering his options on how to improve it.
"Currently, The Wolf peters out as it drops into Carson City, which Jerry is looking into options to alleviate the signal issue," he said. "K-Rock has a translator, and comes into the Valley at 105.1 FM just a couple of ticks down from KOZZ."
Evans also owns KKFT 99.1 FM Talk and KCMY Cowboy Country 102.5 FM.
Thomas said the company also plans soon to activate a new antenna for the 1300 AM portion of KCMY.
