Carson City residents treat public servants to Sunday barbecue
Several leading residents of Carson City pooled their resources Sunday to treat local public service workers to a barbecue at Fuji Park.
Organized by Cafe at Adele's co-owner and Executive Chef Charlie Abowd, the barbecue drew first responders and other city workers and their families out to picnic courtesy of the residents who depend on their service.
"They do so much and work so hard for Carson City," Abowd said.
Abowd said several of his restaurateur peers joined him at Fuji Park, providing eats and refreshments to the guests of honor: employees from the Carson City Sheriff's Office, the Carson City Fire Department, Carson City Public Works, and other municipal workers.
"Today is going to be EPIC," Abowd wrote Sunday morning on his Facebook page. "A chance to work with some of my peers. We are cooking up a Thank You BBQ for the Carson City Public workers and first responders."
Why?
"Because they rock," he said.
Other Carson City restaurateurs at Sunday's barbecue included Chef Mark Estee of the new Union restaurant-brewery-coffee bar, Chef David Stern of Battle Born Social Club, Anthony Fish and Jayme Watts from Sassafrass Eclectic Food Joint, Phil Hyatt of Carson City Barbecue, as well as representatives from Glen Eagles, Los Caporalas, Casino Fandango, Shoe Tree Brewing Company, Nature's Bakery, and Tahoe Tenderloins food truck.
The barbecue's other contributors include: Carson City Downtown Business Association, Bill Miles of Miles Construction, In Plain Sight Marketing, Linda Marrone from the Third and Curry Farmer's Market, Mayor Bob Crowell, City Manager Nick Marano, and the Carson City Board of Supervisors: Karen Abowd, Lori Bagwell, John Barrette and Brad Bonkowski.
