Nevada Department of Public Safety to commission new peace officers Friday in Carson City
The Nevada Department of Public Safety will commission the state's newest Peace Officers at the Academy 80 graduation ceremony this Friday, 11 a.m. at the Carson City Community Center.
Of the 15 graduates, six will join the Parole and Probation Division, and nine will join the Highway Patrol Division Advanced Academy training in June.
Cadets are immersed in high-level courses designed to develop skills required to serve as law enforcement officers in Nevada. Training includes law and legal procedures, patrol operations and investigations, performance of skills, functions of a Peace Officer and physical fitness.
The cadets were among the first to have their training experience recorded and shared in a weekly video series on the NevadaDPS YouTube channel. See the videos here.
DPS Officers perform a variety of law enforcement and public safety functions within the Department of Public Safety. Assignments vary widely, and incumbents are assigned to various Divisions within the Department, including the Nevada Highway Patrol, State Fire Marshal’s Office, Investigations, Parole & Probation and Capitol Police.
