Carson City pays tribute to fallen veterans during Memorial Day ceremony
Family, friends and fellow veterans gathered this Memorial Day at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City to pay respect by honoring buried veterans and fallen military.
Guest speakers, including Mark Sutliff, Nevada Air National Guard Lieutenant, Commander Dave Treinen and Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell described their appreciation and gratitude for the service members who had served their country.
Various military and volunteer organizations including Boys and Girls Scouts, American Legion Post 56 Veterans Honor Guard and Carson City Division Sea Cadets paid their tributes and respect as well.
“Memorial Day is a time to remember the sacrifice both men and women made so we can live in a better world,” Mayor Crowell said. “It’s important not to forget the service members who fought to protect our everyday freedoms and values. This day holds a great deal of meaning for myself and the people here today.”
Earlier Monday, members of the Carson City Marine Corps League held a ceremony at the Stewart Indian School Cemetery along Clear Creek Road to honor the service and sacrifices of American Indians.
