Carson City man arrested for DUI after driving 95 in a 55 mph, attempting to run from scene
A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 3900 block of Highway 50 East for DUI first, speeding, failure to exercise due care, and reckless driving.
According to the report, deputies were dispatched to a gas station to assist a Douglas County deputy who had just pulled over a possible DUI driver.
Upon arrival, deputies noted that the driver of the vehicle was “very irate” and was moving around int he driver’s seat, and the Douglas County deputy was giving instructions to the driver to stay in the vehicle.
The Douglas County deputy told the Carson City deputies that they were driving into Douglas from Dayton in their marked patrol vehicle when they were passed at a very high rate of speed. He paced the van traveling 95 mph in a 55 mph zone. He was unable to maintain his travel lane and almost hit another vehicle on the road way.
He stated the driver of the van was very upset and had a strong smell of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.
Deputies made contact with the driver who smelled of an alcoholic beverage and had “extremely red, watery eyes and slurred speech.”
Each time deputies attempted to speak with the man, he would interrupt them and deputies were unable to speak with him, acceding to the report.
The man continuously attempted to get out of the vehicle and each time deputies had to continue to close the driver’s door and tell him to stay in the van.
He kept saying he needed to call his wife and continued to press buttons on the dash board and turn on his windshield wipers.
Deputies then allowed him to leave the vehicle to perform field sobriety tests. However, the man became extremely upset and attempted to run as if he were going to take off from the scene on foot.
Deputies quickly detained him and put him in hand cuffs.
Inside the vehicle deputies located two 24-ounce beer cans, and deputies took a photo for evidence.
On the way to the jail. the man urinated himself at least two times according to the report. At the jail, the man continued to scream and yell at deputies and attempted to kick and bang his head in the back of the patrol unit.
His blood was taken due to no deputy on scene being certified in intoxilyzer training, according to the report.
