Lyon County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called Monday morning to a residence on Pawnee Trail near Cimarron Trail in Stagecoach for a report of a family dispute. The caller advised that the dispute resulted in gunshots being fired at the residence, according to a LCSO news release.
When deputies arrived on scene they discovered evidence of a shooting and learned that the suspect had barricaded himself on the property. The family members were evacuated from the residence and are safe and accounted for. Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Crisis Negotiators are on scene.
A shelter in place order has been issued for the surrounding area asking residents to stay inside of their residence or out of the area. Deputies are attempting to peacefully end this situation, according to the news release. There are no injuries reported at this time.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office, on its social media page, had stated that its deputies are on scene Monday in Stagecoach investigating an active "law enforcement emergency." Up until the news release Monday afternoon, authorities had not said what the emergency was about but advised people to stay clear of the area and to stay in their homes.
The social media message stated the area of concern is Pawnee Drive and Iroquois Trail. The initial vague message was made at 10:22 a.m. asking nearby residents to "shelter in place" followed by an update at 1:20 p.m. stating that "all school stops north of Highway 50, East of Boyer Lane and west of Stagecoach Dr, Santa Fe Trail areas have been halted at this time."
It further states that "if your student is supposed to get off the bus in one of those locations they are being held at the school until the area is secure and safe for the kids to be dropped off."
At 1:30 p.m. another message was put on its social media page advising people to "avoid the area and if you are in the area please stay in your homes."
At 2:16 p.m. LCSO released a statement regarding the family dispute and subsequent standoff.
Neighbors in the area report they heard possible gunfire and have seen drones flying in the area. LCSO advises that it will update its social media page when more information becomes available.
