Carson City Special Enforcement Team made three separate felony drug arrests Thursday

A 41-year-old transient woman was arrested in the area of E. Nye and N. Lompa Lanes Thursday afternoon for felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of heroin, felony possession of fentanyl, a felony warrant for burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Geneva Maria Frye was arrested by Special Enforcement Team deputies on suspicion of the above charges after failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign in the Nye and Lompa intersection. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with Frye, who was unable to provide deputies with insurance or registration of the vehicle.

Dispatch advised Frye had an active felony warrant out of Carson City Justice Court.

A Deputy K-9 was dispatched to the scene, who conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle which resulted in a positive alert.

Inside, deputies located a black purse on the front passenger seat, which contained a spoon with heroin residue, a baggy with white powder which deputies determined was fentanyl, which Frye confirmed. They also located a scale with methamphetamine residue on it.

Later, inside the same purse, they located an additional spoon with heroin residue, three hypodermic devices, and a Narcan tablet, which is used to combat opioid overdoses. They also located $520 in cash in varying denomination, which was seized as evidence.

In the center console, deputies located a methamphetamine pipe.

The warrant was issued in December of 2018 for Burglary, a category B felony, and Grand Theft, a category C felony.

Frye was taken into custody without incident.

Bail: $28,749

— A 42-year-old transient man was arrested by Special Enforcement Team deputies in the area of Sherman Lane Thursday night for felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of Xanax, possession of a drug without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, and a Department of Alternative Sentencing violation.

Charles Vidal Rodriguez was arrested after deputies recognized him driving, and they knew from previous interactions that his driver’s license was suspended, and he was out on bail for drug trafficking, according to the report.

At the intersection of Nye Lane and Concord Drive, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Rodriguez and placed him into handcuffs.

K-9 Deputy Ivo was dispatched, and conducted an exterior free sniff around the vehicle, to which he alerted the presence of drug owner at the driver’s side of the vehicle. At the same time Ivo alerted, the report states, Rodriguez said he has “Zannies” in his vehicle, meaning Xanax.

Deputies found a small rock of methamphetamine and a tooter straw behind the passenger seat. There was also a hide-a-key container in the back seat with a small amount of methamphetamine. In the trunk, deputies located five Xanax pills inside a backpack, which also contained a digital scale with methamphetamine on the surface.

As the vehicle was being towed, deputies located a baggie of heroin inside, as well as a baggie of cocaine. Inside the glove box, they also located a hypodermic needle loaded with what appeared to be heroin, according to the report.

Rogers claimed the items were not his, but he was able to identify the drugs. While in the jail, Rogers admitted to having suboxone in his wallet, wallet, which is a schedule three narcotic, for which he did not have a prescription.

— A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 2700 block of Highway 50 E. for obstruction a police officer.

The man was arrested by SET deputies after he stood beside a deputy and refused to “move along.”

According to the report, deputies were in the process of impounding a vehicle during a drug investigation when the man approached a deputy and stood close to him without saying anything. Deputies told the man to move along, but he didn’t move.

According to the report, deputies were “unsure of (the man’s) involvement, if he was trying to reclaim or destroy evidence, or if he was armed.” They went on to say that they were concerned as an increasing amount of police officers are ambushed, without provocation, annually, the report states.

Deputies grabbed the man and placed him into handcuffs, put him against the patrol car and searched him for weapons. Deputies noted the man had a strong odor of alcohol coming form his person, and he appeared intoxicated.

They instructed the man to turn his head away while they were searching his person, but he did not. The deputy reached around his head with their right arm and used the crux of their elbow to turn his head away so they could complete their search safely, the report says.

A records check showed the man had a history of alcohol intoxication and interfering or obstructing police officers, said the report.

He was transported to the hospital for medical clearance before being released to jail staff.
