In an all-capped message to Yerington residents late Sunday morning, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office and the Yerington Police Department have asked residents living near a storage unit facility to shelter in place and avoid the area after learning of an explosive device in one of the units.
The request is for residents living near storage units between Second Avenue and Mason Avenue and between Third North and First North. The advisory from the sheriff's office, posted to Facebook at 10:36 a.m., urges residents to shelter in place until further notice.
In an update, Lyon County authorities further explained LCSO was notified of an explosive device located at the storage units.
"Out of abundance of caution we are asking the surrounding area to shelter in place. Further information will be provided as we receive it," according to the post.
KTVN Channel 2 reports the explosive device is dynamite and LCSO is working to get it removed.
