One dead, two children seriously injured in Highway 50 accident
At least one person is dead and two children are seriously injured after a three-vehicle accident this afternoon east of Carson City on Highway 50 at Mound House, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
The accident happened at the intersection of the highway and Kit Kat Lane shortly before 4 this afternoon. Two children were taken by helicopter to Renown Medical Center with life threatening injuries, said NHP Sgt. Chuck Allen.
The unidentified deceased driver had the two injured children inside the vehicle and was traveling in the westbound lane. The vehicle apparently swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting two other vehicles. The driver of one of two vehicles was taken by ambulance. The condition of the third driver is not known at this time, Allen said.
All four lanes of Highway 50 are blocked in both directions at of 5:45 p.m., with traffic being diverted along the shoulders. The relation between the deceased driver and children is not known at this time.
