Carson City arrests: Woman jailed for misusing 911, blames old phone, long nails and meth
A 26-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of misuse of 911, a gross misdemeanor offense, misdemeanor obstructing and two counts violation of bail conditions, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.
According to the booking report, at 11:31 p.m. dispatch received a 911 call with the caller hanging up. Dispatch called the phone number back and on the third time the dispatcher logged that it sounded like a dispute in the background, with the call ending again.
Dispatch initiated text messaging between the caller and dispatch, where the caller continued to text dispatch they needed help and gave several locations throughout Carson City. Deputies responded to each location, including a gas station, an address on North Lompa, a fast food restaurant, an address on Menlo and a casino.
The caller provided her name. A CCSO sergeant also made contact with a woman outside of a casino in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East. The woman identified herself by her middle name. Officers later learned it was the same woman making the calls.
At around midnight CCSO went to a residence and made contact with the suspect. She told officers she had been drinking. She provided a preliminary breath test of .000, according to the booking report.. She initially denied calling and texting 911. She stated she did not need help from deputies. The sergeant contacted dispatch who said the caller texted and called 911 asking for help. Also, while speaking with the woman, the phone she had in her hand rang with the call number coming from CCSO dispatch, the report states.
The woman was arrested for suspicion of misuse of 911. Dispatch advised she is on Department of Alternative sentencing with release conditions.
The woman was read her Miranda warning and admitted to lying to the sergeant outside of the casino about who she was, and admitted to calling 911 and texting 911 with CCSO dispatch. She didn't give a reason for why she did it, but she did say it was an old phone and her nails are long; that she was tired and that she had been drinking alcohol and had smoked methamphetamine earlier. Bail: $8,912.
