Discolored water possible as Carson City Public Works continues main system flush
Carson City’s annual main flushing program this week and throughout April. Flushing operations will take place Monday and Tuesday of this week in the Riverview and Buzzy’s ranch areas. Wednesday and Thursday of this week will see flushing operations in the area east of Fairview Drive, north of Lepire Drive and south of Highway 50.
Public Works has notified residents who have registered for its reverse 911 system in the potentially affected areas. Public Works would like to let residence know there is potential for temporary periods discolored water in the aforementioned areas.
The discoloration is caused by naturally occurring minerals which accumulate in the water system; it is not harmful. Residents should avoid washing light colored laundry if the water is discolored. Any discoloration is expected to clear up within several hours. If you have any questions or concerns, call 887-2355.
Public Works encourages residences to go to www.carson.org/alerts to register for the Code Red service. This system allows staff to contact targeted areas of the city to provide infrequent informational notifications as well as to provide emergency information which requires immediate action. This is especially important for residents without land lines.
