Senator Square: Senior projects and the special effects for everyone involved
The seniors of Carson High School will deliver their Senior Project speeches on April 18. Each student must deliver an 8-12 minute speech in front of 4-5 Carson City Community members, and this is no easy task as, statistically, many fear public speaking more than death.
However, with the encouragement of their most awesome senior English teachers, they are currently preparing for their speeches by practicing in front of their peers. For the seniors at CHS, the Senior Project is the culmination of their academic careers prior to college, and there is not much equal to the knowledge and feeling each of these students achieve than when they successfully complete this task. CHS thanks its teachers, the students’ parents, and the Carson City community for the support of these unforgettable accomplishments.
Senior Project Spotlight
Ever since Kailyn Fitzgerald was in middle school, she always dreamed of becoming a makeup artist in the Hollywood movie industry, and she decided that her Senior Project would focus on Special Effects for her final year at Carson High School. Kailyn’s story is an emotional one though, because her father passed away from cancer a couple months before she turned 14.
She felt very lost, confused, and depressed as she coped with his death, and it caused her to lose herself for a little while and become something she was not. However, Kailyn eventually discovered that makeup was how she wanted to express herself, how she wanted to positively discover who she is, and what she is meant to do for both personal interest and her future career.
Kailyn does makeup every day, and she consistently comes up with new creations using her own face as the canvas for her passion. She says that the one thing she is most proud of in her time at Carson High School is finishing her Senior Project. Kailin also wishes to thank her mentor Katherine Aschenbrener, a professional makeup artist in Reno at Sostre Hair and Body Bar, for the many hours she invested in Kailyn’s Senior Project. Way to go Kailyn!

Senior Spotlight
This week, the Senior Spotlight shines on Christopher Fulwider. Chris is an excellent student with a 4.34 GPA. He is maintaining straight A’s in his current course load which includes 3 AP courses and an advanced engineering class. Chris is very interested in science, especially physics, including theoretical physics, astrophysics and quantum physics. Chris enjoys 3-D modeling and design, playing video games, drawing and riding his bike. He also loves to travel. His adventures have taken him to Lake Powell, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, and Hawaii, among other places.
Chris will be attending the University of Nevada, Reno in the fall and will be a part of the UNR Honors Program. He plans to major in mechanical engineering but would like to take courses in electrical engineering and robotics to round out his education. Chris would love to use his education to invent new products for the world to use. Congratulations to Chris and good luck! Carson High School is proud to have amazing students like Chris Fulwider.
