Carson City Rotarians to learn about fraud and scam protection, public invited
Members of the Rotary Club of Carson City will learn about the latest scams and fraudulent schemes in our area at the club’s next meeting. The public is invited to attend the luncheon event which takes place Tuesday, April 9, at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.
Captain Craig Lowe of the Carson City Sheriff’s office will talk about what people should look out for to avoid becoming a victim of this type of crime. “Anyone, especially seniors, can be a target of a scam or fraud,” he said. “Red flags include calls from someone claiming to be government officials who try to collect money for fines or warrants. Also, text messages from banking institutions that ask for identifying information to address an issue with your account.”
Lowe adds that while the number of fraud cases has stayed about the same for the past few years, the amount of money victims lose has increased.
Anyone interested in attending the meeting should email carsoncitynvrotary@gmail.com. The Brewery Arts Center is located at 449 West King Street, Carson City.
