Western Nevada College celebrates day at the legislature in Carson City
For some, it was their first time in the Nevada Legislature Building; for others, it was a chance to learn even more about state government.
Western Nevada College’s Legislature Day on Tuesday provided students, faculty and staff with an introduction to what transpires in the Legislature Building by attending a senate committee meeting and interaction with state senators and assembly members throughout the day.
WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe spoke to legislators during a public comment session in the morning, urging them to meet with students in attendance.
The college’s student government group, the Associated Students of Western Nevada, were present. ASWN President Suzanna Stankute and Treasurer Benny Buchanan were introduced by senators during a Senate Committee meeting. Nevada System of Higher Education Regents Carol Del Carlo and Jeffrey Downs, as well as President Dalpe, were also introduced during the committee meeting.
Nursing and Paramedicine students, as well as other students, participated in the event.
WNC Legislative Day also was an opportunity to share information about the college, present some cool swag items to legislators, and the unique chance for photographs with Willy, the college’s mascot.
