Suspect in Naomi Irion murder will not appear in court today; pretrial hearing pushed until May 10
Troy Driver, the man arrested last week for the suspected murder and kidnapping of 18-year-old Fernley woman Naomi Irion, was meant to have his pre-trial court hearing today in Fernley, but his case has been pushed back until May 10.
His original court date was made prior to Irion’s body being located, and before he was formally charged with her murder along with burglary, robbery and destruction of evidence.
Irion was abducted in her vehicle in the early morning hours of March 12 while she waited for the Panasonic shuttle to arrive at the Fernley Walmart parking lot to take her to work.
An individual approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and said or did something so that Irion climbed into the passenger seat. The suspect got into the driver’s seat and drove away with Irion in the car; she was never seen alive again.
According to a story by News4, Irion’s brother Casey Valley, who has spearheaded the search for Irion since she failed to return home after work, filed a complaint against the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office due to what they said was a delayed response to the initial report of her disappearance.
Valley stated that the sheriff’s office went against their own policies in the early handling of the case.
In a Facebook post, Valley stated that despite reporting his sister as a missing person, the sheriff’s office did come to take a statement or investigate the case, and told him “let’s see what happens tomorrow” instead of responding to his call.
Three days after Irion disappeared, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office pinged her cell phone and located her car a half a mile away from where she was abducted. Valley said the 36 hours in-between Irion’s abduction and the sheriff’s office taking up the case could have made all the difference in bringing Irion home sooner.
Valley stated that despite Irion disappearing early Saturday morning, it wasn’t until Tuesday morning that a detective got involved.
It was Valley who went to the Walmart where his sister had last been seen alive to ask for the security footage which showed the man abducting her. According to him, he did not believe Walmart had been spoken to by law enforcement prior to him asking for the tape.
No new information has been released regarding the cause of Irion’s death or the circumstances of finding her body, other than it came from a “tip.” However, in the charges filed against Driver, it stated that the crimes were sexually motivated.
Carson Now will continue to update on this case as new information becomes available.
