NV Energy electric bills going down beginning today
NV Energy customers will see less on their electric bill beginning this month, following a rate decrease approved by the Nevada Public Utilities Commission earlier this year.
Northern Nevada residential electric customers using 760 kilowatt hours of electricity a month will see an average decrease of $2.10 on their monthly bills.
The rate decrease is associated with fuel used in power production at the company’s generating stations and power purchase agreements. Fuel and purchased power costs are passed through dollar for dollar with no profit to the company.
The reduced prices are the result of both lower fuel costs and lower total energy costs as a result of NV Energy’s efforts to procure more low-cost power, according to an NV Energy news release.
NV Energy has filed with the PUCN for an additional rate decrease that, if approved, would go into effect on Oct. 1.
On March 13, NV Energy's president announced the utility would suspend disconnects for non-payment for customers directly impacted due to the COVID-19 crisis. NV Energy is also waiving late fees and deposits for customers who experience financial hardships related to COVID-19, or are unable to pay due to self-isolation.
