Carson City area weather: Storm to clear Sunday, warming with sunshine to start the week
An early spring storm that brought snow to the Sierra and Lake Tahoe and a light dusting overnight around the Carson City area will linger this Easter Sunday morning before moving out. Drier and warmer weather is expected to start the work week, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Sunday for Carson City and surrounding counties. Meanwhile, a winter storm warning remains in effect until 11 a.m. for the greater Lake Tahoe area.
While most roadways in the valley areas are clear of any snow from the overnight showers, motorists can expect slippery road conditions in the foothills and Sierra. Chains are required Sunday morning over mountain passes. Motorists are advised to use caution and to take it slow on the roads while traveling. Meanwhile, high pressure over the eastern Pacific will now begin to ridge into the western US through the first half of the upcoming week, bringing with it drier conditions, warmer temperatures, and light winds across western Nevada, according to NWS forecasters.
Sunny skies will return with daytime highs for Carson City and surrounding counties in the low 50s Monday, and the low 60s Tuesday and Wednesday. Check back for updates.
